which OS and configuration do I need to pick?
Hari This depends on preference of course, but Ubuntu (latest available version) is always a safe bet.
Regular Intel with SSD - basic droplet to start although if we are taking the route we discussed over Discord, 2Gb RAM is recommended.
phenomlab Yeah, as this is a test server i am going with the below configuration. i will run this for 1-2 months and will create a higher config one once i am ready for a permanent switch
do i need a 2 cpu $15/m or 1CPU with 2gb ram good enough?
Hari For testing, 1 CPU is probably ok.
phenomlab do we need any of these? and going with password
Hari The most secure by far is with SSH keys. For testing however, a password is fine.
phenomlab i think i have created it, i got a ip and a couple of options, how to log in? do i need to install any ubuntu in my windows lappy to access it easily?
i will watch a few youtube videos now ( too many questions :D )
Hari If you're using Windows, then you should have native support for SSH already. From the command line, try ssh username@ipaddress and press enter. If you have the username and password, that should get you in. If we are taking the route we discussed, then the next stage is to install VirtualMin ?
20min i will do it after having my dinner
phenomlab next stage is to install VirtualMin ?
phenomlab sure, thanks for this
@Hari this might help
Hari hi sir, i am back. i have the key and the ip address where can i get the username?
Hari Should be root
phenomlab i am using windows PowerShell the username is root and its offering me to change password , when i am entering password its closing the session
Hari Why are you using Powershell ? Use the command prompt
phenomlab i thought i would get good clipboard options.
now trying in the cmd prompt but still facing the same issue. its saying permission deined
i have tried resetting the key and updated new passowrd
failing at password change stage
yay, i am finally in root. now on the way to install the virtual min
Hari Don't forget to use the NGINX version
phenomlab i am at step4
hope i will get an a option to select NGINX
Hari If you're at step 4, you've missed it
You'll probably need to rebuild the box and start again. This time, use the command --bundle-LEMP
phenomlab i have used this command
wget http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/install.sh do i still need to start again?
commands in the video and at this link are a bit different https://www.virtualmin.com/download/
Hari Not necessarily if you don't want to, but that command will install Apache by default meaning you'll need to perform these steps afterwards
